Haters" |
|
Today
Felicity Huffman and Don Cheadle have announced the Independent
Spirit Nominations for 2007.
Robin Wright Penn has received a Best Female Lead nomination for
“Sorry, Haters”
Other nominees for best female lead were Catherine O'Hara, "For
Your Consideration"; Elizabeth Reaser, "Sweet Land";
Michelle Williams, "Land of Plenty and Shareeka Epps for “Half
Nelson”.
Jeff Stanzler also received a nomination for “Sorry, Haters”
in the category of Best Screenplay.
Robin had two other Spirit nominations in the past thanks to the
movies “Loved” and last year’s “Nine Lives”
The Spirit Awards, formerly known as the Independent Spirit Awards,
honour films produced on comparatively small budgets of less than
$20 million. The awards will be presented Feb. 24, the day before
the Academy Awards. Nominees were chosen by members of the nonprofit
cinema groups Film Independent and the Independent Film Project.
Congratulations, Robin.
SORRY,HATERS is a psychological thriller with political
and social undertones set in today's New York. It's a story of anger,
revenge and retribution so timely it could be too true for comfort.
It begins when Ashade, a Muslim cab driver (Abdellatif Kechiche),
picks up Phoebe (Robin Wright Penn) a well-heeled professional woman.
Although Ashade and Phoebe have nothing in common, each holds troubling
urges and motivations. When Phoebe takes an interest in exonerating
Ashade's unjustly jailed brother, a series of events are set in
motion resulting in the revelation of a devastating hidden truth.
SORRY,HATERS is that rare film that dares to capture the anxiety
of a city on edge. With powerful performances by Robin Wright Penn,
Abdellatif Kechiche, Sandra Oh and Josh Hamilton it has the courage
to ask the most forbidden questions of who we are, and suggest some
surprising answers.

debut with Room 10, a film she co-directed with one of her best

Robin Wright Penn plays Colleen in this movie. "I
was approached first with … 'Hey, you want to do this short
that Jennifer Aniston's directing?' And I said, 'Yeah, I do!' because
I always loved her from afar," Robin says. "And
then they told me that it was stories made by women for women and
I just thought, what a great opportunity. This is the new millennium
for women. Women are in film. They're here. There is a pulse. It's
just we need to open the screen door."
Robin says she felt "girl

ROOM
10: with Robin Wright Penn and Jennifer Aniston |
Glamour
is trying to make its mark in the movie business.
In October, the magazine will revive its “Reel Moments”
series of short films based on true stories from readers,
this time with three films directed by Hollywood celebrities
like Jennifer Aniston and Bryce Dallas Howard.
The films are written, directed and acted almost entirely
by women, produced by a woman from Moxie Pictures in Los
Angeles, and will partially benefit FilmAid International,
a non-profit group that introduces women in underdeveloped
countries to film.
The magazine has recruited Hollywood actresses to donate
their time to the films, including Robin Wright Penn and
Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
Robin Wright Penn stars in “Room 10” the film
directed by Aniston.
For Ms. Aniston, who is making her directorial debut,
the film was a chance to step behind the camera and participate
in a project with more substance than the standard Hollywood
romantic comedy.
Her film, “Room 10,” co-directed by Andrea
Buchanan, is the tale of a nurse whose personal problems
are illuminated when she tends to a dying patient. The
reader’s story, Ms. Aniston said, reminded her of
a conversation she had with a therapist years earlier.
The three films are currently in production and will have
their premiere in Los Angeles on Oct. 16, followed by
a 10-city screening tour. They will also be available
on Glamour’s Website. |

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Catherine Keener - Capote
Corinna Harfouch - Downfall
Jung-ah Yum - A Tale of Two Sisters
Robin Wright Penn - Nine Lives
Sandra Oh - Wilby Wonderful
Zhang Ziyi - 2046
This is what they say about
Robin Wright Penn:
"Robin Wright
Penn for the role of Diana in Nine Lives - She’s
only onscreen for less than fifteen minutes, but Robin
Wright Penn leaves an indelible impression in Rodrigo
Garcia’s film, which consists of nine sections—each
one shot in a single take and named after its primary
female character.
In the second vignette, she plays Diana, a pregnant
woman who, while grocery shopping, bumps into Damian
(Jason Isaacs), an old flame she hasn’t spoken
to in years.
She is completely caught off guard and noticeably
shaken by his reappearance.
Thanks to Wright Penn’s intense, tour-de-force
performance, you get a vivid sense of the complex,
messy flood of conflicting emotions this chance encounter
causes Diana, and she leaves the audience shaken as
well." |
